According
to the Texas Higher Education Plan, Closing the Gaps by 2015,
the proportion of Texans enrolled in higher education is declining
and bold steps must be taken to close the gaps in higher education
participation, success, and excellence, challenges that are critical
to overcome for the future economic well being of our state.
Role
of Tech-Prep
Tech-Prep
is a process that is uniquely positioned to help Texas overcome
these challenges. For ten years, partnerships across the
state composed of representatives of higher education, the public
school system, and the business community have improved access
to college programs by promoting high standards of achievement
in secondary career and technology programs. Tech-Prep offers
public school students, regardless of their skill level, economic
status, or geographic location, a first-chance for achievement
of basic, academic, technical, and workplace skills that prepare
for the jobs of tomorrow and increased opportunities for postsecondary
education and training.
